{"id":911,"date":"2021-02-24T22:21:12","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T22:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/prayforlife.farrdigital.com\/?p=911"},"modified":"2021-03-30T22:14:11","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T22:14:11","slug":"la-train","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prayforlife3.com\/Staging\/la-train\/","title":{"rendered":"LA Train"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"911\" class=\"elementor elementor-911\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-178ec311 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"178ec311\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-759628a\" data-id=\"759628a\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fce8d77 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"fce8d77\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c03cba4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c03cba4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">LA Train<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6ca3eec6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6ca3eec6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The importance of the Pray for Life Foundation mission is reinforced through the story of LA and Rona Train.\u00a0 Celebrating his 80<sup>th<\/sup> birthday and the 30<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of his transplant in early 2020, LA is one of the oldest heart transplant recipients in Texas!<\/p><p>As a young, lively 18 year-old freshman student at Tulane University, LA was required to complete a routine physical for entry into college.\u00a0 There, it was discovered that he had an irregular EKG.\u00a0\u00a0 A research team encouraged him to do a heart catheter, however, it was a very new procedure so LA and his family elected not to proceed with it.\u00a0 After continued symptoms of cardiac distress, he was diagnosed with an enlarged left ventricle \u2013 later identified as <em>Idiopathic Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.<\/em><\/p><p>It was 1960 and LA was told his life expectancy may reach 50 years old if he was lucky. At the time, the physicians stated the only thing to save him would be for science and research to develop a path to perform a heart transplant.\u00a0 In the meantime, LA was told not to be too strenuous in his activity and to get plenty of rest.\u00a0 That\u2019s easy for him to say&#8230;after all, LA was a young man with a whole life ahead of him!<\/p><p>LA met his wife, Rona, while at Tulane and they married after college graduation.\u00a0 Until the age of 48, life was normal.\u00a0 They raised a wonderful family and their children were now starting lives of their own.\u00a0 It was at that time that LA\u2019s health began to decline.\u00a0 With his situation worsening and the science of heart transplantation more commonly known, LA was placed on a heart transplant list in 1988 with the support of his medical team at St. Luke\u2019s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.<\/p><p>The family was operating a successful business and residing in Corpus Christi.\u00a0 LA\u2019s health continued to deteriorate through the following year; making life very challenging with healthcare in Houston and home\/business in Corpus Christi.\u00a0 In February 1990, LA was hospitalized in grave condition.<\/p><p>By March of 1990, many family members and friends had come to visit to say their final goodbye\u2019s while LA awaited a new heart.\u00a0 On March 3, a miracle donor heart was located in the nearby area.\u00a0 The donor was a 37 year-old male who passed away in a movie theater from a sudden stroke.\u00a0 His liver and kidneys were also donated to other blessed families.<\/p><p>Following surgery, LA awoke to loud pounding and thought that work was being done on the hospital building.\u00a0 The nurse chuckled and said it was the noise of his strong, new heart beating.<\/p><p>Fast forward, LA has had no rejection challenges.
